OXFORD OPEN DOORS 2024

Picture
Join us at Florence Park Community Centre  on Saturday 14th September to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Florence Park estate and it's lovely park. Founded in 1934, the estate was home to many of the Welsh families who migrated to find work in Cowley's car industry and the scene of 1934's successful rent strike against shocking conditions in some of the houses.   Meet residents with memories, see their photos and take a self-guided walk around the park and estate. Opportunities to see locally produced films.
We are opening our doors as part of Oxford Open Doors 2024 in collaboration with the Oxford Preservation Trust .
Come along between 10am - 3pm and take a look around the centre. There will be plenty to see and do.
Refreshments will be available for a small donation. Sit in our lovely garden with some tea and cake and soak up the relaxing atmosphere.

Tour of Community Centre

If you haven't been here before, take a walk around the centre. There will be plenty of volunteers around to talk about how the centre came to be, how it runs and what activities are on offer. You can even sign up as a member while you're here.

Self-guided walk
Pick up a leaflet to follow our circular walk meandering through the streets of Florence Park as well as visiting the park itself. Many of our houses are thoroughly modernised but some original features remain. You’ll see examples of these features on the walk which will take about 30 minutes, more if you linger in the park.

Exhibition
Extensive information and photos showing the history of the estate and Donnington School.

Refreshments
Available all day from our kitchen for a small donation. Lounge room and hall tables available for taking refreshments. You are also welcome to use the garden to relax in.
